EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a form of psychotherapy that help’s people heal from life experiences that have had a disturbing effect on them. EMDR therapy shows that the mind can heal from a psychological trauma much as the body recovers from a physical trauma. When you cut your hand your body works to close the wound. If a foreign object or repeated injury irritates the wound, it festers and causes pain. Once the block is removed, healing resumes. EMDR demonstrates that a similar sequence of events occurs with mental processes. If someone has suffered a traumatic event and have not dealt with the issues it can cause a block which in turn acts like an emotional wound that can fester causing intense suffering. Using the detailed protocols and procedures learned in EMDR training sessions, I can help clients activate their natural healing processes.
